Public Libraries

Public libraries! There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of books and periodicals there! All perfectly indexed and easy to locate! Including movies, magazines, newspapers, hardcovers, and softcovers! It’s all there and it’s all free! Yet another successful government-run program! Bored and broke? Go get a free book!

Back before the internet, you could go there and find pictures of naked people easily enough. You and your friend could share steamy passages from sexy novels and titter quietly. You could also possibly encounter a pedophile in the bathroom or a homeless person sleeping in the stacks, but now we are digressing…

Books! For free! All in one place! Categorized! Archiving and preserving some of the most awesomest videos ever produced but rarely seen!

Educational and Informative:

Poor public libraries. The internet has made you seem irrelevant when you really aren’t. You serve an entirely different function and a very important one. And when is the last time anyone actually appreciated you? Probably the last time people actually read books. Never you mind. You’re ripe for a comeback.

Public libraries are effing awesome.

Free Video Games

Back in the eighties, you paid $30 for one Atari 2600 cartridge that allowed you to play a game which consisted of little more than moving a square pixel-shape across your TV screen in an attempt to avoid another differently-colored square pixel-shape. And you thought it was worth every penny.

Thirty years later, you can still fork out the equivalent amount of money for a store-bought video game, but the complexity and dynamics of the gaming have evolved a bazillion-fold, creating deeper, richer experiences and awe-inspiring moments that rival even the most memorable motion pictures.

Even better than that, you can just as easily go online and game for free. They may not be as jaw-dropping as their console counterparts, but the internet and evolving mobile devices have created a market where clever coders are releasing their wares online for absolutely nothing. Zilch. And even the lamest Flash game is probably a million times better than that pixel blob you were joysticking around in the 80’s. The fact that it’s free is just anti-aliased gravy.

Seriously, check some of these out (via Kongregate):

And that’s just a few. There are literally thousands.

But video games are only for nerds living in their parents’ collective basements, you say? Anyone who tells you that video games are a waste of time is a dipshit who has never actually played them before. They are, in all reality, some of the best tools you can find to improve your pattern recognition abilities, your puzzle solving skills, your dexterity, your responsiveness, and your critical thinking. Plus they are fun as hell.

Video games, especially free ones, are effing awesome.
